Job Summary

The purpose of the Senior Accountant position is to lead and manage the transactional accounting team, resolve and prepare complex reconciliations, and play an essential role in the month-end process.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the transactional accounting functions, which include billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll
  • Prepare and maintain monthly billing reports and generate customer invoices
  • Review accounts payable coding, approval and ensures payment details are correct and are paid on time
  • Ensure special payments such as corporate tax instalments and commodity tax payments are accurate and are paid on time
  • Prepare semi-monthly payroll, payroll remittances and ensure compliance with the applicable employment standards
  • Prepare month-end journal entries such as prepaid expenses, accruals and depreciation/amortization
  • Prepare monthly financial statement and analyze variances against budget
  • Prepare commodity tax returns
  • Ensure inter-company accounts are balanced at period end
  • Assist with year-end audit and preparation of working papers for auditors
  • Recommend and implement changes to processes and procedures to improve efficiency and operating effectiveness
  • Maintain internal control and recommend improvements
  • Ready to provide guidance and training for new team members and implement best practices taking into consideration the company‚Äôs particular circumstances
  • Special projects and other related duties, as required

Work Experience / Education / Designations

  • 5+ years of previous accounting experience with at least one year of supervisory experience
  • Canadian CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA and CPA) or equivalents preferred
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE is required; strong knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP would be an asset
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Strong business acumen

  • Ability to work both in a team and independently with minimal supervision in a remote environment
  • Experience with ERP such as Sage 50 Quantum, Sage 300, Oracle NetSuite or Microsoft NAV would be an asset
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
